Health Mentor and Dru Yoga Teacher Trainer

The Dru Bhagavad Gita by Chris Barrington, John Jones, Savitri MacCuish and Mansukh Patel, compiled and edited by Yamuna Loyal

'Now this is a book I can use!' When I first picked up the Dru Bhagavad Gita I realised immediately that here was a way to understand the Gita, which I've used for years in my yoga classes and seminars, now presented in a friendly, easy-to-read style. It's authors, Chris Barrington, John Jones, Savitri MacCuish and Mansukh Patel have put together one of the best manuals for daily living I've come across.

The Dru Bhagavad Gita (or 'Song of the Spirit') presents the Gita in three volumes covering its eighteen chapters. Set on the field of a great battle, it is a metaphor for the nature of our minds. Its main players represent the powerful forces which compete for supremacy within our own personality – often one of the greatest battlefields of all.

In the first part of each volume Mansukh Patel retells the Gita’s story. I love it! The second part of each book presents the Gita's verses, first in Sanskrit and then translated into English. Each verse has a commentary by Chris, John, Savitri and Mansukh as well as a 'Today' exercise to do during your day.

Chris, John, Mansukh and Savitri present the verses in a incisive style, often with penetrating questions. Because of this, you can read the same verse over and over again, and find it giving you ever new and more valuable insights every time.

As I'm often involved in Dru Meditation courses and Dru Yoga teacher training I'm always looking for ways to make the Gita more accessible to my students. After all, it's one of the world's original source-books for yoga and meditation. Having it in plain, everyday english that is at the same time full of beauty makes this version of the Gita a winner in my books!
